Diverse Professional Backgrounds
Being enthusiastically driven means there is no challenge too large or too small for Lisa to tackle. After 15 years of successfully building and leading Giles & Associates Consultancy (GAC), Lisa identified a clear need for quantitative software solutions for the strategic planning and development functions within the Life Sciences. In 2013 this vision became reality and Optivara was born. Lisa oversees the strategic direction of Optivara and provides leadership and mentorship across all functional areas.
Prior to forming Optivara and GAC, Lisa was Vice President of Strategy Development for Searle Pharmaceuticals, where she handled global pharmaceutical strategic planning, internal consulting, marketing research, portfolio decision analysis, life science portfolio optimization, and merger and transaction analysis.
Before joining Searle, Lisa was a partner with Business Strategy Consulting LLC, and held leadership positions with Abbott Laboratories in marketing and strategic planning, business development and operations for Abbott Diagnostics, Hospital Products, and Corporate Hospital Marketing Divisions. She started her career in the executive management development program at Ralston Purina Company.
Lisa holds an EMP from Stanford University and University of Chicago, and a BS from Juniata College. She serves on the Board of Directors for GenMark Dx (NASDAQ: GNMK), Northwestern Memorial Healthcare Foundation, and is an Emeritus Director of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Auxiliary Board. In 2010, Lisa accepted an award for Top Women Business Owners in America from Enterprising Women Magazine.
Robert Hollar, MS
Chief Product Architect
Because the PC hadn’t really been invented yet, Bob built his own first personal computer back in 1980. He has been working with, on, and around them ever since.
From developing assembly language programming for the, at the time, new, Apple II computer during his college years, to crafting the software that controls sophisticated blood analysis instruments, to designing a quantitative analytical approach to for business decision-making and strategy development strategies, Bob has used computing power and software tools to advance innovative, cutting edge applications, particularly within healthcare.
Bob’s pragmatic approach to software development emphasizes the value of a holistic understanding of computing capabilities and limitations, existing user needs, and new deliverables. Only then can software products be truly innovative, delivering tools that users have not yet never before realized that they always needed.
Yet Bob’s professional experience has honed skills far beyond software. He oversaw the development of a new blood testing system which still, 25 years later, is the only platform in used in the US and elsewhere to for clearing donated blood for transfusion. He led an effort to successfully retrofit random access testing capabilities to an existing analyzer, thereby vastly broadening its target market and extending the product lifetime. Numerous consulting based engagements have provided the opportunity for Bob to formulate and refine more objective business methodologies for assessing and re-prioritizing of diagnostic and therapeutic product pipelines.
Bob holds an MS in analytical chemistry from Purdue University and a BA in chemistry from Illinois Wesleyan University.
Over the years, Giles & Associates Consultancy, Inc. (GAC) developed and refined software applications to address our clients’ complex strategic challenges. Common to these challenges was the need to gather, integrate, analyze, interpret, and display volumes of quantitative data and qualitative intelligence. Many clients expressed interest in internalizing GAC’s proprietary processes to supplement their own capabilities. As a result Optivara, Inc. was established to provide on-going access to software, service, and strategic support to deliver measurable value.
